Shortly thereafter was the creation of “The Dubbin Show”, her family’s high-energy stage production that toured extensively across Canada and internationally for over a decade. This experience formed a solid foundation for launching future projects
for stage, television, film and recording.
As
Deanna began exploring her individual niche musically and professionally, she guided two of her own bands to commercial and musical success at nightclubs, special events and corporate functions. Playing Top
40 Pop and R & B with the bands brought a sense of freedom to Deanna’s engaging stage presence. Becoming well
known for her ability to energize an audience while delivering a full evening of knockout vocals resulted in her
becoming a highly sought after
lead singer by a handful of top notch bands playing
prestige gigs & venues in western Canada.
In
her hometown of Calgary, Deanna was the obvious choice to deliver to the world, the 1988 Winter Olympic Theme Song, written and produced by David Foster. Appearing at the opening and closing ceremonies, she embodied the pride and excitement of aspiring
champions, with captivating performances that remain part of the Olympic Legacy.
Introduced to musical theatre in 1984,
Deanna landed her first role as Prudie Cupp in Pumpboys and Dinettes, which led to performances in more than 20
musical theatre productions; Leader of the Pack, Sound of Music, Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, Footloose and
Guys and Dolls to name a few. The theatrical stage served to develop a new set of skills, reaching new audiences
and extending her experience in a variety of musical styles.
Throughout
her career as a feature performer for live audiences, she also expanded her work to include studio sessions, recording voiceovers and jingles for Fortune 500 companies, heard by millions on radio and television.
From being in the CBC’s award winning ‘Chataugua Girl’ to studying voice in Los Angeles to appearing as a featured
artist on numerous nationally televised
telethons Deanna has covered the spectrum of entertainment
possibilities.
Building
on all of these experiences, a new show was born when Deanna was asked to create a production for Stage West theatre.
It was a challenge she would rise to as she produced, choreographed, musically directed and performed in an all female production, ‘The Covergirls’ - a musical review. In recent years, mentoring her daughter Leah has given Deanna renewed
energy for growth as an artist & performer.
After
25 years in the business we have not yet seen the full capacity of Deanna’s talent, which grows with each new project.
We do however, get a glimpse of her direction as she ventures into the realm of recording. With her debut CD completed and getting great reviews, the next CD project is in the works and will encompass the songwriter
side of Deanna.
If
you are fortunate enough to meet Deanna Dubbin, you will find her presence resonates with the unmistakable qualities
of a gifted performer; breathtaking natural talent, confidence in her abilities and an unwavering commitment to
continually raising the bar for herself. It’s no surprise that these qualities have united in building a vibrant
and enduring career for this outstanding vocalist.
